Caring for Your Sensitive Skin After Quarantine

The global changes have thrown us all through a loop over the past 6 months. With the world as we once knew it turning upside-down, sensitivity broke out for each human being. And for many of us, this reflects in visible sensitivities on the skin.

When stress arises, our bodies go into a panicked fight or flight response, releasing the stress hormone Cortisol. While beneficial in small amounts, excess Cortisol causes inflammation, and this is when we begin to see skin sensitivity and reduced barrier function.

Sure, being cooped up indoors for months on end will cause the skin to look a bit dull (we recommend safely exposing your skin to sunlight each day that you can!) But, the majority of quarantine sensitivities likely stem from stress, hormone irregularities, adrenal gland weakness, and a compromised skin barrier-- which are all connected!

Sensitivity #1: Acne.

Acne and stress are two good friends. The reason why we break out when we’re stressed-out is that high cortisol levels cause our skin’s sebaceous glands to produce more sebum (pore-clogging oils.) As you may know, too much oil produced by the skin will lead to clogged pores and breakouts.

We designed our healing Clarifying Skincare Bundle to clean and detoxify your pores while soothing your nervous system with the calming, ritualistic effect.

Gently cleanse surface debris and makeup with Petal Soft Cleansing Balm, and follow with Earth Mother Detoxifying Mask for 10-15 minutes.

Sensitivity #2: Eczema/Psoriasis/Rosacea/Flush.

If you suffer from any of the above, you’ll understand your skin as it responds to flare-ups.

While these flare-ups may occur for a variety of reasons (from food triggers, chemicals, and skincare products with dyes and perfumes), many people who struggle with sensitive skin also struggle with stress-induced flares. Throw a global pandemic in the mix, and you have yourself the perfect recipe for an itchy, dry, red outbreak.

With redness-prone, textured skin in mind, we crafted our Glowing Skincare Bundle to soothe, soften, and nourish stressed skin.

Simply massage Petal Soft Cleansing Balm onto dry skin, focusing on areas that need a little more TLC.

Once you’re rinsed clean, apply any toners and serums you have, (we love Bright Side Balancing Toner for sensitive skin!) and follow with a light layer of our super-soothing Skin Lullaby Ultra-Moisturizing Cream.
